A young man, Tom, seeks to do something for God. He visits the city to tell others about Jesus.
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” — 2 Timothy 1:7
John was one of Jesus’ 12 apostles and later became one of the “pillars” of the early church (Gal 2:9). He set out to write about Christ’s humanity and divinity, as he did in the fourth gospel. He warns against false teachers and the heresy of Gnosticism that were infiltrating the church. Two themes that he writes of is: God is light and God is love. It’s very likely that First John was written from Ephesus in John’s latter years (A.D. 90-100).
